About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure to join Google's core engineering teams. In this role, you will design and build the distributed systems that power Google's global infrastructure — systems that operate at a scale few engineers ever get to work with.
This is a fully remote, full-time position open to candidates worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain large-scale distributed systems serving billions of requests per day
- Drive technical decisions and contribute to long-term architectural strategy
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and SRE
- Identify and resolve reliability, scalability, and performance bottlenecks
- Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code with a strong emphasis on correctness
- Conduct thorough code reviews and mentor junior and mid-level engineers
- Contribute to open-source projects and internal engineering best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on backend or infrastructure systems
- Deep expertise in one or more of: Go, C++, Java, or Python
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and storage fundamentals
- Experience designing systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and horizontal scalability
- Proven track record of delivering complex, high-impact projects end to end
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across time zones
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kubernetes, Borg, or large-scale container orchestration
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) internals or comparable cloud infrastructure
- Prior experience at a top-tier technology company operating at global scale
- Publications or contributions to systems research or open-source infrastructure tooling
